State of the Galaxy

The year is Earth year 2794. During the early 26th century the Milky way was invaded by who would become known as the Andromedan's. These were not the Kelvan's that Captain Kirk and the USS Enterprise met. The Andromedan's were escaping the death of their Galaxy much like the Kelvan's. Their intention was to conquer and destroy any threat to their existence. Using their superior bio-tech they were able to gain a foot hold and then systematically defeat every power in the alpha quadrant. The Federation and her allies tried to negotiate peace but every hail and broadcast went unanswered as the Invaders, who would be called "Drommies" once their origin was learned, continued their conquest.

Once the Alpha quadrant was conquered the Andromedan's moved onto the Beta, Gamma, and then the Delta quadrants. Anyone who stood in their way were defeated. "Sweeper" fleets would travel conquered space and any sort of rebellion that would rise up was put down harshly. Over the next 270 years any populated planet that reached a certain level of technology greater than that of the 23rd Century was deemed a threat and would either be culled or leveled. A new system of government was put into place called "The Authority". It was made up of defectors and collaborators from across the Galaxy. They were allowed to use technology beyond normal citizens and they were allowed fleets to help in the patrolling of the galaxy and the carrying out of the laws. The Authority exercised taxes and tariffs to help pay for their fleets. They only answered to the Andromedan's.

In current time, the Andromedan's haven't been seen for a long time and are believed to have left for another Galaxy. Only The Authority are known to travel the systems. Rumors of rebellions have been spreading with the absence of the Andromedan's. The rule of the Authority has been harsh and their "Justice" swift. With such a huge galaxy to patrol the Authority fleets are spread thin. Pirates prey on merchant ships and remote colonies.

With the destruction of all known data banks in the galaxy during the Andromedan war, a new Galactic Dark Age has occurred. This wasn't helped with the loss of life suffered in the conquest of the Milky Way. Those who were intelligent and tech savvy but not skilled in survival aspects didn't last long in the post conquest galaxy. Almost all aspects of technology had to be relearned from the most rudimentary level. Knowledge of the wider galaxy was limited as star charts were destroyed as well. To leave one's home planet was to venture into a void of rumors, myths, or the complete unknown. Eventually out of necessity, people would venture out for supplies and trading. Without the Federation and it's Credit system a bartering system would develop that would include valuable minerals, precious stones, and of course Latinum.

A few colonies, those who could afford it, would develop their own protection fleets to battle pirates and raiders. They made sure to abide by all Laws imposed by the Authority and were allowed to carry on. The poorer colonies and those ships that travel outside such jurisdictions were subjected to possible attacks by such pirates and raiders.
